TALDICE ICE CORE PROCESSING AT AWI

The TALDICE ice core was placed in a freezer container and transported by Twin Otter to MZS, and by ship (Italica) to Europe. The TALDICE cores were processed during the summer season at the AWI ice core facility (Alfred Wegener Institute For Polar and Marine Research, Bremerhaven). The methodology for the core processing of TALDICE follows that adopted by the EPICA DML and DC at AWI, but with an exception for dust strips. Due to the difficulty in decontaminating the cut of continuous chemistry for the firn part (the first 72 bags), chemical analysis was performed at Florence University.
